Hi!

We got married in our hometown of Lahore on 18th February 2024, in one of the most polluted and climate-vulnerable cities in the world. We decided to leverage this gathering of our closest and dearest friends and family to provide a platform for local climate activists and to spread awareness about the climate crises facing us all.

This website is a record of our climate wedding in the hopes that it will inspire others to think out of the box when it comes to mobilizing the people around them towards climate action!

With love,
Risham and Jibreel

Our Climate Wedding in a nutshell

Celebrity guests at our wedding

At our wedding, we invited a few cutouts of climate-conscious celebrities to the event who we knew our guests would recognize. We also shared how they have been advocating and working for the climate in our wedding newspaper.

We recognize a guest or two at our Climate Wedding might be controversial, but we believe their local recognition and their immense contribution to the world’s renewables movement are not things we can easily ignore.

The JibRish Tribune

We also had a wedding newspaper printed called “The JibRish Tribune”, explaining our motives for the Climate Wedding, profiles of our celebrity cutouts, and most importantly, sharing the work and contact details for our local climate activists who so graciously agreed to be a part of our wedding.

We also co-wrote an editorial piece explaining our reason for having a climate wedding which was accompanied by an editorial cartoon made by renowned Pakistani Cartoonist, Sabir Nazar.

Guests loved it so much, we have had to order a second print for them to keep!

Educating guests SNEAKILY!

Climate change is a huge topic, even when talking locally, so we decided to focus on the two most immediate threats to the city - Smog (air pollution) & Heatwaves.

We shot short videos on these topics & placed their QR codes at the Climate Wedding for our guests, explaining the issue & what could be done about it.

We chose to not screen these videos at the wedding venue but instead wanted to give the guests the option to engage with the content if they wanted to. By placing QR codes everywhere we gave them a choice and made the process more interactive.

(p.s. english subtitles for the videos are still being worked on)

Our Cli-Mates

We invited local climate change activists, who have worked themselves on projects locally with minimal recognition and support, to our climate wedding. We wanted our guests to know about these impressive individuals who are working diligently to create impactful climate action in Pakistan.

In addition to just inviting them to the wedding, we created an installation to showcase them and their work in the form of a “Climate Museum Exhibit”. We also shared their work in our wedding newspaper. We are immensely thankful to them for being a part of our special day.

Carbon Negative Gifting

We know this is not a solution anymore but it is still the most basic action most of us can undertake ourselves, so at the wedding, we gifted citrus tree saplings (and rose plants) to our guests to take home and grow. We weren’t sure if any would take up the offer so ordered just enough for each family and…

We ran out of plants to give away as well XD

Needless to say, climate wedding was a success!
